Our competition last weekend at Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas was huge success! It is always gratifying to be part of the largest fitness expo in the US. Not only does one get to witness some of the best National and International kettlebell lifting and see the present and future fitness trends and fitness bodies is a huge “value add.” We’d also like to thank our host gym Kettlebell Sanctuary in Las Vegas.
Our event’s success was in a large part because of the awesomeness of Moses Dungca and Michelle Latour. If you’re ever in Vegas and need to lift some kettlebells be sure to seek them out. Their gym is a quick and inexpensive ride from the strip to their gym.
Several personal records were achieved along with a National record or two. First off we’d like to acknowledge and congratulate Marlena Klimkiewicz on her setting the National One Arm Long Cycle record in her weight class of 138 reps with 16 kg. Marlena is a Team USA athlete who was unable to compete in Aktobe Kazakhstan last year as she fractured her C7 spinal process during the warm up prior to her set. She has come a long way in less than a year, from wondering if she would be able to compete again to setting a record. Other Team USA athletes who attained rank are Tom Salazar CMSV in Long Cycle 1 and MSV in snatch, Pam Salazar CMSV in Biathlon (the family that lifts together…). Others making rank are Tony Dyrek CMS Snatch, Irene Wilson CMSV Snatch.
Mr. Olympia is a part of IUKL’s World Cup series and we would like to thank the members of the Russian, Kazakhstan and Ukrainian teams for making the trip. International lifters showed good results: Ivan Markov (RUS) Biathlon: Jerk – 102 repetitions, Snatch – 198; Alexander Khvostov (RUS) Biathlon: Jerk – 75, Snatch -147, Nikolai Kichimaev (RUS) Two arms Long Cycle – 87, Anton Anasenko (RUS) Two arms Long Cycle – 81, Yevgeniy Goncharov (KAZ) Two arms Long Cycle – 61, Adilbek Ashimov (KAZ) Two arms Long Cycle – 47 and Mykola Tkachuk (UKR) – Biathlon: Jerk – 50, Snatch – 151.
Our next international event will be Team USA at the IUKL World Championship in Seoul Korea November 15-19. Still to come this year are is our Halloween Competition on October 28th in Wilton CT and our 5th Year-End Holiday Meet on December 9th at Q Kettlebell Strength and Conditioning in Andover NJ.
We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meet. Keep Lifting and Go Team USA!
