We have all arrived safely back home from our trip to Las Vegas, Nevada where we hosted the annual competition at Mr. Olympia Sports Festival! WOW, what a great event it was!
As with any kettlebell event, the heart of our incredible International Kettlebell Family is inspirational! This kettlebell family exemplifies hard work on the platform, sportsmanship, and willingness to pitch in to help with anything that needs to get done. It is always such an amazing feeling. We would not be here without our lifters and we truly appreciate each and every one of you!
Lifters at the event represented 6 different countries: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Canada, Germany, and USA. There was no shortage of power from our Men’s professional showing. Dmitri Volosovtsev, Mikhail Borodich, and Mykola Tkachuk showed spectators what it means to be on the platform with two 32 kilogram bells! These three athletes are veteran AKA medalists and World Champions. Volosovtsev put up amazing numbers and beat his own World Record that he recently set at WKSF World Championships this past spring. With his record beating performance, Dmitri Volosovtsev earned the title of Overall Men’s Champion!
Women’s professional lifters included championship performances from Lorna Kleidman and Svitlana Krechyk. Svitlana earned a gold medal in her two signature events long cycle and snatch. With her two gold medal lifts, Svitlana Krychek earned the title of Overall Female champion!
In the middle of the flight schedule we had a demonstration lift from the Junior lifters from Kettlebell Sanctuary coached my Moses Dungca and Michelle Latour. These lifters used kid-sized bells designed and manufactured by Moses himself. These three young lifters put up veteran worthy performances on the platform!
As always, we had a great group of amateur and veteran lifters, this time representing multiple countries and we saw many new faces on the platform.
The lifting for the day came to a close with Karyl Sargent and Michele Latour completing a full hour-long marathon! A full marathon is always something to watch. The mental toughness to lift for that long is intense, knowing that although IKMF marathon rules allow lifters unlimited hand changes lifters cannot stop before the clock runs out at 60 minutes or they will be disqualified. Both Karyl and Michelle put up some strong numbers. In fact, we will have to be investing in new timers soon as Michelle exceeded 1000 reps in her set!
With all this happening on the platform it should not come as a surprise that the VIKN Grip Challenge sponsored by Ketlebell Kings kept the crowd engaged all day as well. This fun and challenging activity is always a favorite of both our kettlebell lifters and other athletes visiting the expo. Congratulations to Hector Hernandez and Dakura Smith for taking first place respectively in men’s and women’s categories! Thank you to Dan, Chad, Sharon, Gerald, Bubba, and Devan for bringing such an exciting competition for our lifters and spectators!

Lastly, a special shout out to our home club, Kettlebell Sanctuary! Without the help of Moses and Michelle this competition would not have been as big of a success!
I cannot stress enough how much we appreciate our lifters. We are an organization staffed exclusively by volunteers. We are successful because of all the support shown to us by our lifters! We are planning some exciting adventures starting in January so make sure you check the events section of our Facebook page for information on upcoming events. As always you can find us on Facebook with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/AKAsport/ . Additional information can be found online at aka-sport.org.
